There may be an unfamiliar look to Berkshire’s side this season but their coach, Tom Lambert, has warned that does not mean they should be written off as they begin their defence of the National Counties Trophy today. Four key members of the squad that won eight pieces of silverware in five seasons – brothers James and Richard Morris, Stewart Davison and Chris Peploe – all retired at the end of last season but Berkshire still have a core group of players who contributed to a bulging trophy cabinet.

Head coach George Skivington has committed his future to Gloucester Rugby having signed a new long term deal with the Cherry and Whites.The 39-year-old joined Gloucester in summer 2020 as head coach and is now coming to the end of his second full season at the helm at Kingsholm.

Oxfordshire added the National Counties T20 title to the three-day National Counties Championship they won last September with a thrilling two wickets win over Cambridgeshire in a tense final at Tring Park.A superb 84 from Harrison Ward, one of five homegrown players who are now contracted to first-class counties in Oxfordshire’s side, got them most of the way to a target of 170 – the highest score of Finals Day.

It was at Tring that Oxfordshire won the National Counties Championship last September when they beat Suffolk in the final and they go back there to face Cheshire in the first semi-final on Sunday (10am) with Dorset facing Cambridgeshire in the second match at 1.30pm.
