England Athletics has launched the new initiative to help people take up running more easily.

Run in England will be delivered by the Exeter-based team who have built up the successful Women’s Running Network and will see local community based running groups created to guide beginners and recreational runners who run or walk for fitness.

England Athletics chief executive Mike Summers explained: “Running is a hugely accessible and enjoyable way of getting active and keeping fit.

“We want to be able to offer groups that meet people where they are – in their local area, at their level of ability and at the times that are convenient for them. As people progress they may want to join a running club but this is about helping people to take their first steps in the sport without any pressure or expectation, while offering them a good level of support and encouragement. We expect many people to join the groups will come along not considering themselves to be ‘runners’ at all.”
