Wellington Swords’ Chris Hay completed the rare feat of retaining the boys under 18 epee title at the British Youth Championships at The English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.
It was a successful competition for the club as Chard’s Jessica Gundry also won a national title, claiming the girls under 14 epee gold medal in her first year competing in the age group.
Sherborne’s Sophie Townsend won a bronze medal in the girls under 18 epee losing in the semi final to gold medallist Caitlin Chang.
In the under 14 foil, Jade Clarke – from Uffculme - won a bronze medal with Gundry placed ninth. Taunton-based Daniel Willson finished 15th in the under 16 boys’ foil.
In the girls under 18 epee, Bryony Wedge-Thomas was 11th and Emily Richardson 20th while Luke Edbrook was 28th in the under 18 boys epee.
