The New Zealand-born Australian international lock led from the front helping extend Exeter’s lead by finishing a scintillating second half move with Chiefs’ second try of the day.

Mumm, 30, said: “For some time we’ve talked about becoming a side that can achieve things and move onto that next level. This is part of us moving in that direction.”

The Chiefs captain also praised the Exeter fan base in a 10,004 sell-out Sandy Park cup final crowd: “It’s a great day for everyone and just look at the people behind us, it means a lot to them and it certainly means a lot to us.”

Chiefs’ next Premiership match is at Leicester Tigers on Sunday (1400) when the squad is boosted by the return of England internationals, forward Tom Johnson and Cornish flyer Jack Nowell, who scored his debut Six Nations try in the 52-11 win over Italy in Rome. Exeter seek to avenge September’s 21-9 home defeat by Tigers.

Chiefs return to Sandy Park to face Westcountry rivals Gloucester on Saturday March 29 (1500) anticipating another capacity cheer.
