Mears, 33, is joined in the squad by club mate Carl Fearns and Exeter Chiefs back row forward Tom Johnson (pictured, pinnacle photo agency uk).

• Exeter Chiefs have agreed a two-year deal with imposing Welsh lock forward Damian Welch from Scarlets.

Welch, 29, has previously played for Cardiff University, Pontypridd, Cardiff and the Cardiff Blues.

• Devon bid to bounce back from their opening 33-20 county championship division two south defeat by Somerset when they host Kent at Brixham RFC on Saturday (Astley Park 1500).

Somerset travel to play Kent on Saturday May 19 Aylesford Bulls RFC (Jack Williams Memorial Ground 1500).

• The rain-delayed Bristol Combination Cup final between eight times winners Avonmouth Old Boys and first-time finalists Thornbury is now set to take place on Monday at Bristol RFC (Memorial Ground 1915).
