Liz Sinton scored twice as Clifton won 3-1 at Slough on the opening day of the new 2012-13 Investec Women's Hockey League season.
Jo Leigh opened Clifton’s account on 22 minutes as the region’s only Premier Division side got off to a flying start.
Former Isca University ace Amy Sheehan got Slough back on level terms on 52 minutes before Clifton vice captain Sinton’s double strike on 51 (pc) and 62.
New Isca University skipper Claire Thomas – who scored 18 goals for the University of Exeter-based side last term – is off the mark again, scoring a 41st minute goal in the 2-0 Women’s Conference West win over Southampton’s Trojans.
Katie Taverner opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time.
Gloucester City won 3-0 at Staines thanks to second half goals from Megan Brazil (37 mins), Emma Done (40) and Kim Pullon (59) while newly promoted Taunton Vale drew 0-0 with visitors Swansea City.
Firebrands lost 6-3 at home to perennial favourites Buckingham despite goals for Georgie Fields (28 ps, 43) and Corinne Bury (54).
