The top women’s hockey team in the region, Clifton Ladies, are set to play their first Investec national league match of 2012 when they host Canterbury (Coombe Dingle Sports Complex 1130) tomorrow.
Bristol-based Clifton side are fifth in the Women’s Premier Division four points behind third placed Canterbury, who edged the mid-October meeting in Kent 2-1.
Clifton will be without talismanic skipper Fleur Horner but boosted by the return of Great Britain's Champions Trophy silver medal-winning midfield star Georgie Twigg.
Firebrands – also from Bristol – are set to visit runaway Women’s Conference West leaders Buckingham while Team Bath Buccaneers host Southampton side Trojans (University of Bath Sports Training Village 1300).
Second placed Swansea host Gloucester City (King George V Playing Fields 1200) bidding to close a seven-point gap on Buckingham, who beat the big freeze to record a 1-0 win at Trojans last Sunday.
There are two WCW games in Exeter. Isca University host Barnes Hounslow Ealing (University of Exeter Sports Park 1230) while Exe are at home to basement side Staines (St Luke’s Science & Sports College 1300).
There is also set to be a full programme of games in the West Clubs Women’s Hockey League. Fixtures can be viewed by visiting the excellent WCWHL website.
