Today is FA Cup preliminary round day, and with it that buzz of excitement that comes with all the best knockout competitions.
The clichés will roll out about how teams competing in today’s preliminaries will not reach the Wembley final. Who cares?
As in all sport it’s the taking part that counts and the non-League football supporters and players of clubs like Bodmin Town, Cadbury Heath, Melksham Town, Plymouth Parkway or Larkhall Athletic will relish their FA Cup day – and half-time cuppa - as much as any of those at Premier or Football League clubs.
I applaud them.
Admission prices for today’s ties are likely to be reasonable, host clubs will hope for a boost in attendance and – win, lose or draw - travelling supporters will have plenty of tales for the return journey.
Oh and - hopefully - there will be some “cup upsets”!
Today’s FA Cup preliminary round ties kick off at 1500 and include Bishop’s Cleeve v Ascot United, Cinderford Town v Abingdon Town, Cirencester Town v Merthyr Town, Mangotsfield United v Bitton AFC, Yate Town v Poole Town, Pewsey Vale v Melksham Town, Cadbury Heath v Almondsbury UWE, Hallen v Swindon Supermarine, Wimborne Town v Fareham Town, Gillingham Town v Bishop Sutton, Wells City v Bodmin Town, Clevedon Town v Tiverton Town, Buckland Athletic v Hengrove Athletic, Sherborne Town v Odd Down, Larkhall Athletic v Bridgwater Town, Paulton Rovers v Taunton Town, Chard Town v Plymouth Parkway.
• Most non-League sides now operate topical twitter feeds. SWSN tries to track as many as possible and will try and bring you a flavour of some of today's ties . . . we have already seen plenty of twitter action from @MelkshamTownFC and players ahead of their FA Cup trip to Pewsey and the famed #facup #road2Wembley
