TORQUAY UNITED FC appoint Cox as manager

Torquay United club crestTorquay United have appointed former Mansfield Town boss Paul Cox, 43 as the new Gulls first team manager.

Cox arrives at the Launa Windows Stadium following great success as manager of Eastwood Town and then Mansfield, earning the Stags a return to the Football League two seasons ago.

Nottingham born Cox was a defender with Notts County, Halifax Town and Kettering Town in his playing days, moving into management with Eastwood Town in the Northern Premier League in 2005.

Successive promotions with Eastwood caught the attention of bosses at Mansfield and Cox became the new manager at Field Mill in May 2011. It took Cox just two seasons to win the Conference Premier title in a campaign that also saw the Stags reach the FA Cup Third Round, where they took on Liverpool.

His first full season as a manager in the Football League ended in a very respectable mid-table finish and it came as a big surprise when he left the club back in November.
