GOOD FRIDAY FOR FOOTBALL

It’s a great Friday for football fans in the region.

At Plainmoor, promotion chasing Torquay United host Accrington Stanley (1500) with the morning news that Martin Ling has just been name League Two manager of the month and free scoring skipper Lee Mansell, the division’s player of the month.

However the most important win for United today will be avenging December’s 3-1 defeat at Accrington and maintaining their promotion push.

Cheltenham Town seek to get their promotion bid back on the rails at home to Barnet (Whaddon Road 1500) while in-form Bristol Rovers host Gillingham (Memorial Stadium 1500).

In League One, Exeter City visit Scunthorpe (1500) but there is plenty of non-League action across the region as there are full Toolstation Western League and Carlsberg South West Peninsula League programmes.

Today’s Western League fixtures (1500 unless stated) Barnstaple Town v Ilfracombe Town, Bishop Sutton v Brislington, Bitton v Longwell Green Sports (1200) Corsham Town v Bristol Manor Farm, Merthyr Town v Hallen, Odd Down v Larkhall Athletic (1100) Wells City v Street.

First Division Cadbury Heath v Oldland Abbotonians (1300) Chard Town v Wellington, Gillingham Town v Elmore, Hengrove Athletic v Keynsham Town (1300) Melksham Town v Clane (1300) Portishead v Almondsbury UWE (1200) Shepton Mallet v Welton Rovers, Shrewton United v Devizes Town (1300) Westbury United v Bradford Town.

• Most SWPL games kicked off at 1100 this morning. However in the Premier Division, the Liskeard Athletic v Saltash United and Tavistock v Launceston games kick off at 1500, as does the Okehampton Argyle v Crediton United in Division One East.

In Division One West, again, most games started at 1100. However Godolphin Athletic v Newquay is at 1200 and Porthleven v Helston Athletic at 1400.

Hayle v Mousehole and Perranporth v Wadebridge Town both kick off at 1500.
