New Torquay United boss Martin Ling is hoping for third time lucky when he next speaks to popular Gulls winger Danny Stevens.
Ling has already held talks with out-of-contract Stevens and is hopeful of completing a deal to retain the 24-year-old attacking midfielder this weekend.
The Gulls boss said: “I have spoken to Danny twice now and hoping it will be third time lucky when we next speak in the next 24 hours. I have told him we want him to stay.”
Ling also plans to offer former QPR youngster Joe Oastler the chance to turn his loan stay at Torquay into a permanent deal this week.
The new Gulls boss is hoping to name his assistant manager soon.
Ling said: “I am hoping that this week we will be able to make an announcement.
“It’s important that we get the structure right at the club and, obviously, I need an assistant.”
