WESTERN PREM Torpoint Athletic 0-3 Ivybridge Town

A top all-round performance saw Ivybridge Town gain their first Western Premier win, 3-0 at Torpoint.

Victory came four days after the Ivy's 2-0 FA Vase win at Newton Abbot Spurs.

Ivybridge took command of the game from the start and might have well secured a more convincing scoreline with three scoring attempts disallowed.

Owen Pritchard opened the scoring in the 33rd minute and Ivybridge wrapped up their victory with further goals from Sean Thomson in the 80th minute and substitute Rory Busby six minutes later.

Although not getting on the scoresheet, striker Ollie Aplin turned in a man of the match performance for Ivybridge with two assists and he also found the net with a great header, which was one of the three efforts ruled out.

The win saw Ivybridge pull away from the bottom of the table, after managing only one point from their previous four league matches.

Ivybridge joint manager Wayne Gamble was pleased with the result, which was a reward for the supporters who followed the side for the short trip across the Tamar and outnumber home fans in the 161 crowd.

“That sort of result has been coming,” said Gamble.

“We began strongly and Torpoint could not live with us for the first half hour or so. Overall, I felt it was a one-sided game and the scoreline flattered Torpoint.

“We scored three goals and had three more disallowed. Ollie Aplin led the attack brilliantly and was deservedly our man of the match.”

With two wins and two clean sheets in their last two games, Ivybridge will be in confident mood for their next match – another away fixture with a 200-plus mile round trip to Brislington on Saturday.

Brislington top the table but suffered their first league defeat 2-0 at home to Nailsea on Tuesday.
