LEAGUE 2 Knill sets Torquay 12 point target

Torquay United crestTorquay United manager Alan Knill has set the relegation haunted Gulls a "win-all" 12-point target in their final four League Two games following yesterday's 3-1 home defeat by play-off hopefuls Bradford City.

United have slipped to 20th in the table, a point above second from bottom York City, ahead of Saturday's trip to runaway leaders Gillingham.

Following yesterday's defeat, defiant Knill said: "I don't think there is any better place to go than Gillingham and put in a good performance and all of a sudden it turns around again.

"It doesn't matter who you are playing it is about what you do and if we perform like that it's going to be a struggle.

"If we perform like we have been in our last five games it won't be."

York's 2-0 home win over in-form Plymouth Argyle – who began the day as the division's form team following three wins in a row – means it's tighter than ever at the basement, with only four points separating the bottom eight sides.

They include 18th placed Barnet, who visit Plainmoor on Saturday week.

Knill said: "We have four games to go, we can win four so let's make the target 12 points."

Yesterday the Gulls were gifted a flying start by Joss Labadie's third minute opener, the midfielder's fourth goal since teaming up with Torquay on loan from Notts County six games ago.

City hit back to level four minutes later through Rory McArdle and then surged ahead with further goals from winger Garry Thompson (18 mins) and striker John Hanson (48).
