Worcestershire completed their preparations for their defence of the Metro Bank Cup title by beating an inexperienced Herefordshire side by 146 runs in a 50 overs Showcase match at Eastnor.

The value of the fixture should not be gauged in runs scored and wickets taken alone.

Johnny Connell, who helped Berkshire win the NV Play National Counties Trophy on Sunday, has signed for Somerset for their Metro Bank One Day Cup campaign.

Connell has been in sparkling form for Berkshire this season with a century against Sussex in a T20 Showcase match against Sussex at Horsham in May the real eye-catcher.

COUNTIES CRICKET Exeter will host Devon Super 12s

Exeter, Sprowston, Wargrave and Wolverhampton have been chosen as the venues for this season’s National Counties T20 Super 12s.

The winners at each of the four venues on August 9 will progress to Finals Day at Wormsley on August 30 where the semi-finals and final will be played.

Devon host Somerset at Exmouth in the first of this season’s Showcase Matches today (1715 new start time).

The former Middlesex, Hampshire and Northamptonshire all-rounder has been player/coach of Italy and has now taken over as Dorset’s Head of Performance.
