COUNTIES CRICKET Wiltshire can win despite Stanley spin

Shropshire off-spinner Joe Stanley returned the best bowling figures in the Durant Cricket National Counties Championship in 11 years in the Western Division Two match against Wiltshire at Whitchurch. 

Stanley, who is a member of the Worcestershire Academy, took nine for 83 in Wiltshire’s first innings, the best by anyone in the competition since Cheshire slow left-armer Danny Woods took nine for 74 against Shropshire at Bridgnorth in 2012.

COUNTIES CRICKET Championship final round, day one

Buckinghamshire booked their place in the Durant Cricket National Counties Championship final by securing top spot in Eastern Division One. 

Buckinghamshire went into their final divisional match against Suffolk at Copdock needing a maximum of six points to end their hosts’ hopes of overtaking them and four to eliminate Staffordshire, who began the day with a four points lead but with their four-match programme completed.

COUNTIES CRICKET Rain blighted second day

Slow left-armer Luke Beaven led Berkshire’s fightback with a six wicket haul but the defending champions still face an uphill struggle to avoid defeat against Herefordshire in their final Durant Cricket National Counties Championship Western Division One match at Eastnor. 

Berkshire need to win the match to have any hope of topping the Western Division and progressing to next month’s final and, thanks to Beaven, they restricted Herefordshire to a first innings lead of just 18.

COUNTIES CRICKET Championship latest - day one report

Johnny Connell rescued defending champions Berkshire on a testing opening day of their Durant Cricket National Counties Championship Western Division One match against Herefordshire at Eastnor. 

Berkshire, who were put in on a pitch that was still recovering from getting wet during a county Under-18s match during the week, were in dire straits at 99 for seven shortly after lunch.

George Hargrave produced a record-breaking performance to take Shropshire to a stunning five wickets win over Dorset at Wimborne in the Durant Cricket National Counties Championship Western Division Two. 

The Oxford University opener became the first batter in the history of a competition that dates back to 1895 to score a double century and a century in a match.
