COUNTIES CRICKET Sharma century boosts Bucks

Aadi Sharma’s superb maiden century put Buckinghamshire in control of the Durant Cricket National Counties Championship final against Devon at West Bromwich Dartmouth. 

The 17-year-old, who is on Northamptonshire’s Academy, made 115 from 153 balls in an innings of class and maturity that helped Buckinghamshire turn a handy first innings lead of 67 into an imposing one of 393 by the end of the second day.

COUNTIES CRICKET FINAL Bowlers dominate on day one

Buckinghamshire’s bowlers led the fightback after their batters had collapsed on an eventful opening day of the Durant Cricket National Counties Championship final against Devon at West Bromwich Dartmouth. 

Buckinghamshire slumped from 121 for two in the final over before lunch to 185 all out in their first innings, a total that would have been more meagre had Conner Haddow (13) and Tom Weymes (16 not out) not added 33 for the last wicket.

COUNTIES CRICKET Devon win Western Division One

Devon will meet Buckinghamshire in the Durant Cricket National Counties Championship final after they came from third to first on the last day of the regular season to claim the Western Division One title. 

Devon needed to beat Herefordshire at Sidmouth and then hope that Cheshire could do them a favour by beating Oxfordshire at Banbury if they were to overtake Berkshire – who sat out the last round of matches – and Oxfordshire and reach the final for the first time since 2011.

COUNTIES CRICKET Wiltshire can win despite Stanley spin

Shropshire off-spinner Joe Stanley returned the best bowling figures in the Durant Cricket National Counties Championship in 11 years in the Western Division Two match against Wiltshire at Whitchurch. 

Stanley, who is a member of the Worcestershire Academy, took nine for 83 in Wiltshire’s first innings, the best by anyone in the competition since Cheshire slow left-armer Danny Woods took nine for 74 against Shropshire at Bridgnorth in 2012.

COUNTIES CRICKET Championship final round, day one

Buckinghamshire booked their place in the Durant Cricket National Counties Championship final by securing top spot in Eastern Division One. 

Buckinghamshire went into their final divisional match against Suffolk at Copdock needing a maximum of six points to end their hosts’ hopes of overtaking them and four to eliminate Staffordshire, who began the day with a four points lead but with their four-match programme completed.
