University of Exeter claimed their first Men’s Hockey League Premier Division point with a 1-1 comeback draw at defending champions Surbiton.James Thomas converted a 52nd minute penalty corner opportunity for the newly promoted greens just four minutes after former University ace James Royce had put the home side ahead in open play.

It feels as though the hockey season has really got underway in the region today as the men’s West of England & South Wales Hockey League 2018/19 season starts with a full programme of fixtures.The national England Hockey League started last weekend - with Premier Division games - as did the regional West Clubs Women’s Hockey League.
