Rain came to Cornwall’s aid against Oxfordshire on the third and final day's Western Divison One county championship opener at Banbury where there was no play before lunch.

Cornwall’s sole objective was to save the follow-on but they suffered a setback when Ellis Whiteford was forced to retire hurt on 16 while taking evasive action against a short ball from Tom Davis.

Berkshire seamer Josh Lincoln took his first five wicket haul for the county to help restrict Devon to 270 for nine at Wargrave on the second day of the opening round of NCCA Championship matches. 

Half-centuries from Rhys Lewis (86) and Charlie Dunnett (62) – who shared a second wicket partnership of 99 – took Berkshire to 243 for six at the close with 24 more of their first innings 90 overs still at their disposal.

On a soggy first day of the NCCA Cluberly Championship all eight opening matches were rain-affected.

Western Division champions Berkshire were frustrated by a second wicket stand of 173 between Devon’s Elliot Hamilton and Matt Thompson at Wargrave, where played started after lunch.
