RUGBY UNION Henson summer switch to Bristol Rugby

Bristol rugby crestGavin Henson has agreed to join Bristol Rugby on a one-year deal ahead of the 2015-16 season.

The 32 year old Glamorgan-born Welsh back is set to make a summer switch to Bristol from high flying Aviva Premiership outfit Bath Rugby where he has made eight appearances so far this term.

A British & Irish Lion in 2005, the hugely talented midfielder has appeared 33 times for Wales, winning two Grand Slams. Coincidentally he turns 33 on February 1.

“Gavin’s all-round rugby ability will enhance the way that we are trying to develop our game. He’s a good fit for us,” Director of Rugby Andy Robinson told bristolrugby.co.uk

“Gavin’s performances have been consistently good and he has worked hard.

“He’s shown professionalism and a positive attitude. He is hungry and wants to play rugby.

“Coupled with his vast experience at the highest level, Gavin’s arrival will provide us with nous and versatility in our young and exciting backline.”

With a playing CV that includes the likes of Saracens and Toulon, Pencoed-born Henson also won domestic titles at Ospreys under Sean Holley in 2005 and 2007.

Henson - equally adept at fly half, centre or full back - says: “I’m looking forward to the opportunity of working with Andy and once again with Sean.

“Bristol is a well-run club with great facilities and a clear ambition for the future. I’m keen to play my part in that vision.

“I want to play rugby and focus on my game. The incentive for me is to show a positive attitude in a Bristol shirt and keep working hard on my performances.”
