GOLF Devon face favourites at English finals

Saunton and Devon's Matt Wells, image courtesy & copyright Tom Ward Sport Yorkshire are favourites to win a seventh English Boys County Finals following yesterday's 7-2 opening win over Hampshire, Isle of Wight & Channel Islands at Cotswold Hills Golf Club in Gloucestershire.

South West champions Devon lost their opening match 5 ½-3 ½ against Midlands winners Staffordshire, and face Yorkshire today.

Devon seven Harry Flower (Woodbury Park) Ben Isaac (Liberton) Anthony McGeorge (Royal North Devon) Ryan Pope (Exeter G&CC) Dan Rosevear (Yelverton) Jacob Tinsley (East Devon) Matt Wells (Saunton).

• Devon men’s player-captain Adam Bridgewater will be keeping a close eye on events in Gloucestershire as McGeorge, Pope, Rosevear and Wells are all in his Channel League 10 for the top-of-the-table clash against title rivals Gwent at Royal North Devon on Sunday.

Bridgewater’s Devon men's 10 will also include teenage ace Jimmy Mullen and newcomer David Ashley, also from RND.

Mullen won Saturday's 36 hole Kashmir Cup over his windswept home course with an impressive 144.
