The men's Cornwall Golf Union Amateur Championships take place at St Enodoc until Saturday with the match play stages of the competition already in full swing.

Joe Cruse – from the host club – topped yesterday's qualifying leader board with back to back 67s for a six under 134 total, six ahead of nearest rivals Carl Burley (Merlin) and Anthony Nash (St Enodoc) on 140.

Defending champion Tom Fox, from Saltash’s China Fleet Club, qualified eighth on 143.

• Yelverton’s Steve Daniels won the 94^th Devon County Golf Union Amateur Championship title at Teignmouth.

Daniels beat Teignmouth’s Sam Dunn two and one in the final following a 4&3 win over Royal North Devon prospect Jimmy Mullen in the semis. Dunn beat 2011 champion Leon Fricker of Yelverton at the 19th.

Exeter’s Ryan Pope was top qualifier for the match play stages winning Friday’s gold medal with back to back 68s for a leader board topping score of 136.

Stover trio Lloyd Gardner, Jason Hampton and Chris Honeywill won the team title and EGU Champion Club tournament qualifier.

• Minchinhampton ace Laurie Potter (pictured) won the Gloucestershire Golf Union Men’s Amateur Championship at Cotswold Hills.

The University of Exeter golf scholar topped the leader board on 286 after four rounds after carding 72 74 69 71.

Runner-up was defending champion Tom Workman (Stinchcombe Hill) on 289.

Defending team champions Brickhampton Court will again represent Gloucestershire in the EGU Club Championship final at Stoneham in September.

Court trio – Nigel Thompson, Charlie McLean and Jake Phillips – scored 290 to pip Minchinhampton (291) and Bristol & Clifton (292) to the Winterbotham Cup.
