LES PHILLIPS CUP FINAL PREVIEW

Ilfracombe Town take on Bristol-based club Cadbury Heath at Wells City FC’s home ground, Rowdens Road, in the Toolstation Western League (Les Phillips) Cup final at 1500 today.

North Devon side Ilfracombe have just finished third in the Premier Division, Cadbury Heath fourth in the First.

Bluebrids boss Barry Yeo said: “I won’t sugar coat it in any way. It means a lot to us, we haven’t been in that many cup finals before and there are plenty of teams – like us – who have never won the Les Phillips Cup even though they have been in the league for many years.

“We had a nervous semi-final against (Bristol) Manor Farm and even I was nervous when it got down to penalties but we got through and now the prize is waiting for us.

“I know we have got to be at our best because Cadbury Heath will want to put their name on the trophy as well, so I will be asking the players for one more, final effort.”

Yeo has settled on his starting XI but admits the luxury of a full compliment will test his selection skills.

He said: “I think everyone has declared themselves fit for this one. It’s a nice position to be in before a cup final.”

Three coachloads of Ilfracombe supporters are heading to Wells for the final.

Cadbury Heath have already upset Premier Division opposition on their way to the final.

The Heathens beat Odd Down (Bath) 3-1 in the semi finals and Willand Rovers 4-1 in the quarter finals.
