DAVE'S DIARY - APRIL SHOWERS

Cricket fans will understand how we feel here at southwestsportsnews.com . . . our new series "dave's diary" which will follow the fortunes of Cornish-born Cornwood cricketer David John Petherbridge through the summer months was put on temporary hold by inclement weather.

Dave remained undaunted by the fact that the for two Saturdays he made himself available for selection and the skies responded by opening and raining on his pre-season parade.

Not to be outdone and seamlessly switching codes, Dave made for Home Park along with Pethers senior only to be stumped again as his beloved Pilgrims were pegged back 2-2 in the last minute of stoppage time.

"After that I really wished I had been playing cricket," rued our crestfallen fortysomething.

Our intrepid off-spinner returned to midweek action when he took the only wicket as Jason Hall's A Division outfit were beaten in a pre-season friendly at Premier Division Plympton, skippered by Keith Donohue, in an 18-over friendly at Harewood House.

Cornwood - including marathon man Duncan Boase and former hockey ace Kevin Willcock - beat local rivals Ivybridge by six wickets at Oak Park in another pre-season friendly while Plympton visited Tavistock.

Weather-permitting Cornwood's Devon League season is due to begin at Bovey Tracey, when Plympton visit Paignton.

Howzat!
