Exeter University have won the national Men's Hockey League Conference West title following a last gasp 1-0 win at Cheltenham yesterday.
James Thomas scored the all-important 69th minute goal which clinched the championship for Exeter, who now represent the region in the end of season Premier Division promotion play-offs.
The students are three (play-off) games away from a place in country's top 10 again.
Cardiff & Met finished runners-up, Bristol's Clifton Robinsons were relegated following their first season in the national league.
Cheltenham will now compete in end of season play-offs to avoid relegation.
Clifton Robinsons Ladies retained their top flight Women's Hockey League status following a 2-0 win at third placed East Grinstead on Saturday and yesterday's 2-2 draw at relegated basement side Leicester.
It was Saturday's superb win which enabled the Bristol blues to go into yesterday's game in the knowledge one point would be enough to maintain an unbroken presence in the Premier Division as the region's top hockey side.
Hannah Coulson (18pc) and Abi Porter (59) scored at East Grinstead. Izzy Palmer (20ps) and Nicola Moss (40) scored for Clifton yesterday.
