Bristol City have smashed their transfer record to sign Angers SCO and Senegal striker Famara Diédhiou for £5.3m.
The club has eclipsed its previous transfer record of £3.25m spent on Jonathan Kodjia from the same French Ligue 1 club in 2015.
Diédhiou, 24, has penned a four-year contract at Ashton Gate after City beat off competition from other clubs for his signature.
City head coach Lee Johnson said: “I’m absolutely delighted. I think he’s going to be a huge player for us.
“We’ll give him the number nine shirt, which obviously comes with that history for goalscorers – and most importantly he actually wanted that shirt number.”
• Yesterday City revealed they are set to sign Italian promotion-winning defender Eros Pisano from Verona on Saturday July 1.
The 30-year-old will join on a free transfer after his contract expires at Hellas Verona – where he won promotion from Serie B last season.
Pisano agreed a two-year contract at Ashton Gate to become the Johnson’s first summer signing.
