Torquay United boss Chris Hargreaves hopes his fledgling Gulls use their 4-0 FA Trophy second round win over promotion chasing Conference South Bromley FC as a springboard for league success, starting next Saturday at Altrincham.
Hargreaves – whose side coasted to victory on the Devon south coast – said: “The game next week at Altrincham is important (because) we haven’t had the run in the league that we’ve wanted after such a bright start so we want to get back at it.
“Our focus now is to win as many games as we can to the end of the season. It’s no good points-watching and table-watching, it just drives you mad. You have just got to win as many games as you possibly can and see where it takes you.
“We are through this round of the Trophy and we have ambitions to get to the final and we have got every chance.
“We could have scored about seven or eight but you have got to be happy with 4-0 and there were some really good performances.
“I think perhaps today we got a little bit of luck and on other days we haven’t had that rub of the green. Hopefully over the season it evens out.”
Ben Harding’s deflected 20 yard strike got United off the mark and five minutes later Toby Ajala profited when a clearance hit his boot and trickled into the net.
Top scorer Ryan Bowman took his tally to 12 goals, heading home Courtney Cameron’s pinpoint, pacey cross from the left before Bowman’s replacement Ashley Yeoman went solo to smash the ball in on the run.
Teenage Torquay shot-stopper Jordan Seabright made of an outstanding triple second half save and also palmed over a goal-bound strike late-on to keep a clean sheet.
