Newly promoted Exeter & Culm Vale Hornets begin life in the 2011-2012 Davis Wood Hockey League top flight at Plymouth Marjon on Saturday October 1.
Hornets, runners-up to Premier Two champions University of Exeter B, play their first Premier One match at UCP Marjon and then face a tough first home test against University of Exeter A at St James School on the second Saturday of the new 2011-2012 season, October 8.

Martin Ling, who steered Leyton Orient to promotion to League One in 2006, has been appointed as the new Torquay United manager.
The 44-year-old former Orient and Cambridge United boss - who began his playing career on the Exeter City wing - was confirmed as the new Gulls boss via United's official website at three o'clock this afternoon.

Two of tomorrow’s top ECB Cornwall Premier League games have early start times to allow Cornwall players extra time to travel to Henley for Cornwall’s Minor Counties Championship opener, which starts on Sunday.
Troon v leaders Truro and Grampound Road v Callington are set to begin at noon, an hour earlier than the usual 1300 start.

The Plymouth Primary Schools Mixed Hockey Festival has been granted the Inspire Mark - the badge of the London 2012 Inspire Programme – as the festival celebrates its 10th year.
This year's mixed hockey festival takes place today and tomorrow at University College Plymouth St Mark & St John (UCP Marjon) and will involve 60 primary school teams from the region.

Torquay United chairman Simon Baker has confirmed the board’s decision to appoint a new first team manager as soon as, practically, possible.
Baker told southwestsportsnews this morning: “As a board we really feel that we must make an appointment by Monday.
